Huruma community school was founded in 2006 with the main objective of providing education to the less fortunate children of Mukuru Kwa Njenga and other vulnerable children.
It runs from baby care to standard eight and harbors a children’s home. For quite a long time , it struggled to get adequate teaching and learning materials like text books and other essentials such as beddings and clothing for the orphans.
The Miller foundation has been supporting the institution by giving instructional and other learning materials. It has also extended its kind hands to the orphanage hosted in the institution. Provision of essentials services like mosquito nets, just to mention a few, has reduced incidences of malaria which was rampant before.
Students from the school can now comfortably compete with their counterparts from government institutions. This has led to a marked improvement in the national exams performance. With a better learning environment, the students now feel confident enough and they attribute their success to the Foundation.
The Foundation endeavors to continue supporting the institution and make it self sustainable.
